Merry and Pippin are living up to the greatness of Merry and Pippin are living up to the greatness of their Hobbit namesakes. They are still silly kittens but they are indeed turning into valiant warriors, stalking and smiting the enemies of Rodent. They have been hailed far and wide for their handsomeness and are gaining acclaim for their cunning success in battle. Alas, they must fight their battles in another land and are seeking a new fortress to protect. In a classic case of “you don’t know what you don’t know,” we have learned that eucalyptus is toxic to cats. It would generally not be an issue since most cats avoid the smell of eucalyptus and thus, the plants themselves; however, as evidenced by my post earlier this week, their home is filled with eucalyptus and we’ve just realized they are suffering the consequences of it. We have successfully socialized them and they are very friendly. They love snuggles and would probably relish the adventure of exploring a home but I suspect they would prefer a mostly outdoor life. For the sake of their health, I would like to re-home them as quickly as possible. They have had all necessary shots to date and have an appointment to be neutered next week. A nominal fee would include an insulated cat house, cat tree, litterbox and litter (used sometimes but not always), and food. They must be taken together as they are brothers and best buds. They are self-declared wool snobs and only use natural elements to dye their wool. Who knew that flower petals could turn wool into all sorts of pretty colors?! We’ve been saving rudbeckia, zinnias, dahlias, and sunflowers for months and Sherry picked up a huge load yesterday. I can’t wait to see what they make from it.
